Tipping is one of those topics which always sparked hot debate on social media as everyone wants to share their thoughts on that matter.
Most of the time, the debate gets intense around what is considered a small tip. However, what happens when the tip is an eye-catching amount of $4,400?
It’s a different story which you definitely are not going to see every day.
Take the example of Ryan Brandt,
Last year, she served a large group of business professionals with more than 40 people at an Arkansas eatery where she got a huge amount of tip as a thank you for her outstanding service.
This fortuitous windfall left her in great shock as she was not expecting this coming her way.
Later, one of the dinner guests named Rebecca Soto shared the joyful scene on her Instagram expressing her feeling of blessing someone.
“I’m humbled to have been part of something so beautiful and generous. To bless someone else without previously knowing them.”
She could not stop her sentiments here and also added,
“I have been blessed, so it is wonderful to pay it forward and bless someone else.”
“God bless all who contributed and the servers who received it. I pray it may be multiplied and impact their life for the better.”
But, things took a turn and the act of kindness became a sad reason for Ryan, as she had to experience a significant low, and got laid off from work.
In the now-viral video, the businessman named Grant Wise could be seen handing over the gigantic tip to the astonished Ryan.
“Everybody at this table has contributed or tipped $100 for you, and for the other waitress, who unfortunately had to go home because she wasn’t feeling well,”
He further explained to her.
“And then we put it out to our social media channels, and we actually had quite a bit more money sent in.”
“So we are tipping you a total of $4,400 for you to split with the other girl that took care of us.”
After receiving the tip, the server was completely overwhelmed by their kind gesture.
She started thanking everyone who was involved in this generous act which brought tears of happiness to her eyes.
But, unfortunately, the joy did not last too long.
While talking to KNWA News, Ryan revealed so much disappointment. : “I was told that I was going to be giving my cash over to my shift manager, and I would be taking home 20 percent.”
She further told the news outlet that in her almost three-year journey at Oven & Tap, nobody asked her to share her tips with any other member of staff.
When Grant Wise knew about what had just happened, he asked them to return his tip instantly, according to the reports of Distractify during that time.
As he got the tip back, he directly approached Ryan and gave the money to her far from the restaurant as he wanted to make sure that she got the entire amount.
But as soon as she returned to the restaurant, she listened to the devastating news that, the management had fired her due to receiving the amount, however, it was a claim from Ryan which Oven & Tap refused to accept.
“It was devastating. I borrowed a significant amount for student loans.”
“Most of them were turned off because of the pandemic, but they’re turning back on in January and that’s a harsh reality,” Ryan told the local media.
According to Ryan, Oven & Tap dismissed her because she ‘Violated their policy’.
The co-owner of the establishment, Luke Wetzel, came forward in this matter and wrote, “The employee that was terminated was not terminated for retaining the tip.”
“Due to the privacy and the respect of our employees, we do not discuss employee affairs.”
