Birthmarks have long been linked with knowledge, and they are a delightful symbol to be born with in most situations. However, these inconsequential markings are not always inconsequential.
Nicole Hall gave birth to Winry, a seemingly regular baby girl, about 13 months ago; nonetheless, there was something unusual about her.
The young child had a large birthmark just on right side of her face, which frightened her parents greatly.
Nicole recalled how distraught they were when they were first saw her sign and how worried they were for her daughter’s safety.
Despite the fact that she was born happily and strong, she had a unique feature on her face that they had never seen before.
“The first time I saw her, I thought it was a bruise,” Nicole told Good Morning America. “then slowly, it became apparent to my husband that it was not a bruise. Then I thought maybe it was a mole.”
”My husband and I became concerned, and we were extremely confused because we did not know what it was or if we could do something about it,” she added.
“However, the physicians informed us that we did not need to be concerned. It’s a disorder known as Congenital Melanocytic Nevi, or CMN, according to them.”
Doctors said their baby daughter had an extremely rare birthmark with a possibility of developing in 1 in 50,000 births and no likelihood of being detected before the baby was born.
“It’s estimated to occur in around 1 in 50,000 births and is mostly aesthetic, carrying the same concerns as any mole or nevi would.” The doctors told the couple
Nicole told the Bright Side that after several meetings with the physicians, they felt satisfied and that their sole concern was keeping their daughter well. “We just want her to live a normal life, like other children,” she said.
“Her health and happiness are our major priority. We have to monitor her with sunscreen. I’m cautious with hats and that sort of thing,” the mom said. “I know our dermatologist will probably be our best friend growing up.”
The couple has an older son named Asher, who is perfectly healthy and was born without a single birthmark. Her son Asher, she revealed, is very attached to his newborn sister and enjoys being around with her. Nicole described him as “accommodating and loving.”
As per the parents, Asher treats Winry like any other child, and he doesn’t even think of her birthmark as notably ‘strange.’
“However, sadly, the same cannot be said about other people. Ever since I shared the story online through Instagram and TikTok, I have also received some insensitive comments from different people,” she said. “Sometimes, when we go out with Winry, people would stare at her, making us uncomfortable.”
“But there are many kind people as well. I have received more nice comments than insensitive ones, so I want to focus on the positive. Thousands of people have extended their love and support to Winry and our family, so I am not complaining.” Said Nicole.
The parents are doing their best to remain optimistic, but they are worried of how other children will treat her once she is old enough to attend school.
