10 Manners Parent Needs To Teach Their Kids in Their Early Years

Good manners exhibit a conscious understanding of treating people within mannerism in the way they would like to be treated therefore parent needs to teach their kids. This basic notion needs to be developed in the childhood years when human brain learns at a much quicker pace.

Why is it important to make the child understand about good manners? Besides cognitive and behavioral traits, the development of good manners also begins at childhood. Fellow humans lack the necessary understanding of empathetic nature because it has not been developed in the early years. Its many undesirable consequences include difficulty in establishing mutual understanding to nurture relationships, a child is more susceptible to becoming an outsider; social isolation.

Keeping in view the importance of good manners in life parent needs to teach their kids in their early years, it is necessary to know which 10 manners will develop the empathetic nature.

1. Use of “Please” AND “Thank you.”

“Please” and “Thank you” are words to describe common courtesy which seem to be deficient in a society now-a-days. These basic words when used more often exhibit a polite and well-mannered nature and help to build a foundation for future relationships.

2. Use of “Excuse me.”

No one likes their personal space to be intruded for which “Excuse me” is a courteous way to approach someone personally. Well you need to get someone’s attention, accidentally bump into someone, making space through a crowded area, saying these two magical words will increase the likelihood of someone respecting your right intentions.

3. Teaching to refrain from intrusion

How will you feel amidst an important conversation with your colleague and someone will intrude on you? You will definitely not expect someone to attempt that as it is perceived rude and ungracious.

Interrupting someone while they’re attempting to speak is perceived as incredibly rude and uncivil. Your child should learn the “80/20” rule of “2 ears and 1 mouth,” in order to avoid being discourteous. Teach your child of active listening which is, unfortunately, not common in today’s “look at me” society.

4. Teaching to respond graciously

Exhibiting gratitude should be the fundamental principle parent needs to teach their kids. A thank you note or responding graciously to a gift is the gracious gesture a child should know about.

5. Teaching on hygiene

Hygiene rituals need to be taught to children in their early years. With the development of their age, parents should teach children the understanding of elementary rules like: covering mouth when you yawn, do not cough on someone’s face, washing hands after using the toilet. These subtle suggestions will promote self-discipline and the child will attempt to remain germ-free.

6. Teaching “Table manners.”

Table manners instill respectfulness and discipline in the child. Parents can teach them to not reach across the table to grab something, only hands should be on the table, or children aren’t allowed to leave without excusing themselves.

7. Parent needs to teach their kids of holding the door for others

Holding the door for someone behind us shows the person is courteous and strongly believes in good manners.

8. Responding to an adult’s question with respect

Children tend to distract quicker and have a short attention span. As their brain is still developing, encouraging a child to respond to an adult’s inquiry with attention is a terrific way to build their understanding of discipline and respect for authority.

Childhood is the best time to teach the importance of respecting individuals who adhere to authoritative figures. Parents need to make a child understand that teachers, policemen, and those who carry the burden of enforcing societal order should be treated with respect. .

Greeting elders when meet them, entering and exiting politely, and raising the hand to raise question are just few ways to encourage respect.

10. Teaching the importance of orderliness and cleanliness

Children learn from what they see. Parents should build a clean and orderly environment that involves participation by children too. They should know to clean mess after playing with toys, or taking dishes to washing area after their meals. Parents should insist and give instructions on cleaning for orderliness and cleanliness.
